This training course is designed to give all personnel a basic understanding of what intellectual property is, how it is protected, why these assets are important to a business, how to submit an idea, and what is expected of all personnel for handling company proprietary information. 


Invention versus Inventorship is an important legal distinction. This difference is fundamental to patent procurement. While you may participate in the invention process, you are not necessarily considered an inventor by law. The goal of this module is for you to be able to understand the difference between invention participation and inventorship.

Intangible assets play a key role in all businesses, large or small, regardless of industry. These assets create business value and competitive advantage for a company. 

In this module, we will explore in detail how businesses benefit from creating and protecting the value of their intellectual property assets.

Invention Capture, Approval, and Patent Procurement 

This course introduces the R&D (Developers/Engineers/Scientists) and manufacturing personnel to the business processes by which the company ensures its technical developments are appropriately protected and that IP-related risks are sufficiently managed (and that it has the freedom to operate its business).  Students will learn about the key review processes, including the Invention Disclosure Submission, Invention Review, and Patent Procurement.
